S.S.#2 Spohn One Room Schoolhouse in Harris Hill: Renovated and ready for toursHarris Hill has one of the remaining one room schoolhouses in the area. It is only 2 miles from Harris Hill Resort and has been lovingly restored by the neighbourhood.

One day a year, one of the teachers from Rainy River brings her students here to experience what it was like back then. Everyone dresses "old fashioned", even the "School Marm" with her bell.

The Harris Hill One Room Schoolhouse, S.S. #2 Spohn, was built to serve the community after a fire claimed the existing schoolhouse.

It was built in 1926 and remained open until 1965. When it was closed, the remaining students were bussed another 15 miles to Rainy River for their education.

The school remains fully intact with original desks, books, teacher's desk and blackboard. Other parts have been renovated but kept the same as was before. Unfortunately, the Teacherage was not renovated or kept up and has deteriorated beyond restoration, although it remains to view from far in the yard.

It is fun to step back into history and envision a time of education in a one room classroom.
