Spring fishing for Smallmouth Bass: we find Smallmouth Bass in their spawning areas which are in shallow sandy bays, shallow reefs and rocky points and shorelines. For success during this time we recommend top water artificial baits like e.g. (skitter pops, chug bugs, tube jigs) and other artificial bait eg.( crank baits, soft jerk baits). For live bait options use a jig and a minnow or a hook and a leech, with casting and reeling in.
In the summer, Smallmouth Bass are found on 5'-15' reefs. Recommended method of fishing is tube jugs, crank baits or a jig and a leech.
Fall bass fishing: we find the Smallmouth Bass in their early spring areas again which are sandy bays, shallow reefs, rocky points and shorelines.
Lake of the Woods is one of the few Lakes in Northwestern Ontario that has Largemouth Bass fishing. The population of Largemouth Bass is abundant and growing every year.
In the Fall is when those big hogs seem more abundant. To have successful Bass Fishing you need to fish on the mouth of shallow bays,on reefs and points. In fall just about all artificial and live baits work well. We use a jig and either a minnow or a leech. They are attracted to spinners with a live minnow also.
