Sturgeon Fishing in ZONE 5 of Lake of the Woods is closed from April 30th to June 30th. Sturgeon are readily found and seen on Lake of the Woods. What an exciting sight to see as these prehistoric looking bottom feeders take a "roll" on the surface of the waters. Sturgeon must be over 74.8" to keep.

There are no Master Award Angler Certificates available for this species.

Igor Z. & Dr. Anton K. with a 78" Sturgeon: caught on the Rainy River. Although they were fishing and caught many that day, 12-15, you could only keep Sturgeon over 45" in 2006, as they were measured from behind the gill prior to 2007.

A CITES Permit is necessary to export a Sturgeon out of Canada. They are available only at the Ministry of Natural Resourses offices.
