Ontario Wildlife Viewing Photography Lake of the Woods
Elk are sometimes, but not oftyen, seen around this area: Elk were planted here by our Natural Resources Department. Most of them swam across the river to Minnesota.
Wildlife photography and wildlife viewing are exhilarating experiences with all the species of animals in this area.
Viewing areas are being set up to assist nature and wildlife viewing and photography so that we will not disturb the wildlife.
Check out the abundant number of squirrels and chipmunks running back and forth from our feeders. You will see the occassional Woodchuk too.
Woodchuks are a fun animal to watch. They will frequently be seen in the yard and around the cabins.
Beaver and Otter can frequently be seen swimming around the dock or the water’s edge. One Otter even had her young under our shed just behind the lodge.
Whitetail Deer can be viewed and photographed from a number of places at and around Harris Hill Resort.
We have some tower stands and grounds huts set up that make it suitable for inclement weather, and also makes it less likely to scare the deer.
Deer roam freely around our cabins, in the yard and in the nearby fields and meadows.
Just a mile from here you will find approx 5-20 deer almost at all times, especially towards evening.
An occasional moose, elk, fox, wolf or bear may sometimes be seen in the distance.
Butterflies are a beautiful sight to see as they flit from flower to flower.
There are many species here including the Monarh Butterfly and the Swallowtail.
Black Bear are native to this area
Wild flowers, berries, dragon flies and butterflies are native to this area and are always plentiful around our lodge and property.
Enjoy all the different varieties of Orchids, including the Small Yellow Lady’s Slipper, Large Yellow Lady’s Slipper, Showy Lady’s Slipper and the nearly extinct Stemless Lady’s Slipper.
